About Sibiel

The INURA 2016 retreat offers the opportunity to discover a Romanian village in Transylvania, within the Marginimea Sibiului culture that developed over the centuries in the outskirts of the city of Sibiu. The retreat program includes two walk-shops: a visit of the village, as well as (easy) hiking along the creek, deeper into the Sibiel Valley.

Travel info

Wednesday morning, September 7 at 10.00, is the group departure from Bucharest, traveling to Sibiel by bus along the Olt Valley (Valea Oltului) and including a break for lunch and a short visit. The expected arrival time at Pensiunea Sibiel is around 18.00.

Sibiel is only 17 km away from Sibiu International Airport that may be used as the gateway to Romania for the INURA 2016 Conference. The airport is connected by bus 11 to the center of Sibiu.

There are various options for road travel from Sibiu to Bucharest by bus or by car.

Sibiu Railway Station is 23 km away from Sibiel. At present, traveling by train in Romania is somewhat more time consuming than expected, due to the lack of investments in the last two decades for maintaining existing sustainable transportation. Before the 1990s, railway transport has been the common means of long-distance travel, and thus the rail infrastructure network covers the entire country: Romanian Rail Map
